Tutorial PS | Working with 3D models in Photoshop CS3 Extended

This tutorial will show you one of the new features of version of Photoshop CS3 Extended, for the first time you can work with 3D models. It does not take any expert or learn 3D applications with which these models are created, we will see how these models and deal with it in Photoshop.

Step 1:

Plugin download Google 3D Warehouse:

To assist the work we're going to download a plugin that will allow us to find, download and convert 3D models to the proper format for Photoshop. You can also search. U3d, .3 ds,. Obj,. Kmz and Collada) created with programs like Adobe Acrobat ® 3D Version 8, 3D Studio Max, Alias, Maya, and Google Earth.

This plugin integrates a library of models of Google, the Warehouse, are models that users of Google Sketchup 3D software is shared on the network.

Decárgalo in: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/pscs3_google3d_plugin.html

Step 2:

Install the plugin:

Go to the folder:

C: \ Program Files \ Adobe \ Adobe Photoshop CS3 \ PlugIns \ File Formats

and drop the file you are within. zip download. Google3D.8LI. Macintosh also placed in the KMZ plugin and if you asked if you want to replace what's already there do it.

Step 3:

Search models:

If you had open Photoshop restart. Will have added a new menu item Search Google for 3D Model ... File> Automate. If we click we open the window 3D Warehouse.
Now we can enter a search query for models (default) or in collections. If for example we are looking window about 48 models. Choose the one you like best and click download model.

Step 4:

3D models for Photoshop:

Once downloaded our plugin is responsible for turning it in the KMZ format, we asked where we were and we want to save it opens in Photoshop. The 3D models are made up of polygons so sen vector, independent resolution.

In the layers palette you will see a layer, a new type, a layer 3D. Also look on the Internet, on sites such good http://archive3d.net/ models there excellent quality and whether to download usáis Poser 7 (http://graphics.smithmicro.com/) you can export the models of people or characters to your design in Photoshop.

Step 5:

Open 3D model:

If we have to download the plug, it will be opened in Photoshop with the format. Kmz can then save it. Psd or the format we like. If we have the file to open it in our team we ask the size of the picture as we have commented that is independent of resolution, the model is scaled to fit the size without losing detail, again will open the original file format (u3d. 3ds. Obj,. Kmz or Collada)

Step 6:

Editing 3D model:

To edit a 3D model must click on the layer 3D, have an icon in the form of a cube, if we double-click on the layer go into the editing of the 3D model. We have two options, the first two buttons indicate what we are going to edit, the first activated by default edit the object and the second edits the camera so that the object is a son of the camera.

If the model comes with textures appear on the panel layers and be able to edit simply double-clicking on them, but we can not create textures directly into Photoshop, we would have to do with motives and layer masks.

Step 7:

Editing 3D object:

We have 5 tools to rotate, rotate, move, slide or climb the object, select the tool and click and drag on the object. The icon of the house used to go to home. If we want to change the position, orientation or scale of the object with values get a puncture on the arrow to enter the values on different axes X, Y or Z.

Step 8:

Lighting:

The object itself, not its polygons can be edited in Photoshop, we need an external application. We can change the lighting of the file from the Settings menu of light.

We can leave the lights of the file, remove the lights, illuminate with red lights, night, day, only light from the eye, and so on. The advantage is that when working in Photoshop can then add layers of adjustment, switching to the merger, use filters lighting and a thousand other things.

Step 9:

Appearance:

Another possibility is to change the appearance of the object, the interpretation of the object. The default mode of interpretation is opaque or solid. We leave only the metal mesh (shaded, opaque, transparent, hidden), solid, illustration and many others.

We can change the color of the lines (default white) and the sides (black by default). In a transparent manner and transparent mesh also can change the opacity.

Step No. 10:

Sections:

From the menu sections can enable the cross-section, select the axis X, Y or Z, and we cut the object with the handlers of position and orientation. If we want we can turn the object and not to show the intersections of the section.

If doubling the layer of the 3D model we can create unusual effects.

Step # 11:

Camera:

We can leave the fixed object and change the camera view we have of the object, to select the 3D camera tools to make change orbits, moving, pan, zoom and walk.

When we use any of these tools appear in the View menu a new light: as Vista 1, we can return to a default or save the current with the floppy disk icon on the trash removes it. If the model comes with an animation can use the player to view and edit.

Step # 12:

Finish:

Once edited the model we can add layers of adjustment, after other elements to make our work as PDF, PSB, TIFF or PSD and maintain all of its properties or rasterizer or convert the layer into a 3D object intelligently so that we can no longer edit but if you work with filters, brushes and save it in any format.

If we want to integrate our 3D model in another image or combine multiple menu, go to Layer> 3D Layers> New Layer from 3D file.

The options as ever in Photoshop are endless. Of course this can not be done with GIMP
